2019 Jeep Renegade vs 2019 Mazda CX-3  near Philadelphia, PA

With so many automakers that manufacture a slew of different types of vehicles, it can be rather overwhelming to try and pick out a new vehicle that is perfect for you. While deciding to purchase a new vehicle is a big decision it doesn't have to be a cumbersome decision. To help make the process easy for you we've taken two of the top contenders in the subcompact crossover class and compared them. On the left, we have the 2019 Jeep Renegade with amazing off-road capability, and on the right, we have the 2019 Mazda CX-3. Keep reading to take a look at how these two vehicles differ. 

2019 Jeep Renegade Power & Handling

Jeep offers buyers two different engine options for the 2019 Renegade. A 2.4-liter inline-4 engine making 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft comes standard on the Renegade. While an all-new 1.3-liter turbocharged engine producing 177 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque is optional. Although FWD is standard either engine can be had with the optional 4WD. When the Jeep Renegade is paired with the 2.4-liter engine and 4WD it has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. All versions of the 2019 Renegade come mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Unlike the Jeep Renegade, the 2019 Mazda CX-3 only comes with one engine option. While the 2.0-liter inline-4 engine saw a bump in horsepower from 146 to 148, it still pails in comparison to both of the Jeep Renegade's engine options. Maximum torque for the CX-3 stayed at 146 lb-ft. The engine comes standard with front-wheel drive but can be had with optional all-wheel drive.

2019 Jeep Renegade Features & Design

Four different trim levels are available for the Jeep Renegade including Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. The base sport model comes with a removable cargo floor panel, a 5-inch touchscreen a six-speaker sound system, a rearview camera, and keyless entry. One step up the trim level ladder and you'll find the Latitude with a 7-inch touchscreen, roof rails, heated mirrors, ambient LED lighting, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The luxurious Limited model adds automatic wipers with de-icers, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, leather upholstery, and remote start. Finally, the off-road Trailhawk model comes fully equipped with all-terrain tires, a raised suspension, skid plates, tow hooks, all-season floor mats, and a raised suspension. Notable options include an 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, a cargo cover, and xenon headlights.

2019 Mazda CX-3  Features & Design

Mazda only offers the CX-3 in three trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The CX-3 comes standard with keyless entry, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a six-speaker sound system, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. The Touring model adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic headlights, heated front seats, and automatic wipers. Lastly, is the Grand Touring model with a sunroof, LED exterior lighting, leather upholstery, and a cargo cover.

Conclusions

It is clear to see that the 2019 Mazda CX-3 is still sitting on the starting line while the 2019 Jeep Renegade is about to cross the finish line. Both of the Jeep Renegade's available engines simply outperform the singular engine in the CX-3 provided by Mazda. The lineup on the Jeep Renegade also included a superior off-road version that the CX-3 just doesn't offer. Overall the Jeep Renegade is the superior vehicle.
