Jeep has long been the world leader in off-road capable
vehicles, and the 2019 Jeep Cherokee gets another leg on the competition. The
enhanced four-wheel-drive system has always been best in its class and this
year Jeep is adding to that with a next-generation read drive module which
reduced weight while adding fuel efficiency without skimping on performance,
all while you cruise the open road with Jeeps signature dual-pane sunroof.
Let's not waste any time and get into the off-roading capabilities of this
remarkable vehicle so that you can come down and take a test drive today! Â
What about the Engines?Â
I'm glad you asked! The base engine is the 2.4-liter
4-cylinder which has the option of a turbocharge which gives the Jeep Cherokee 270
horsepower and 295 lb.-ft of torque. This turbocharge is new for 2019 and
provides new features such as engine stop-start (ESS) which optimizes fuel
economy and helps to minimize greenhouse gasses. Next in line is the 3.2-liter
V6 which also comes with engine stop-start technology while also providing 271
horsepower as well as the ability to tow up to 4,500 pounds. Various
four-wheel-drive systems are available, depending on the trim you choose, and
all engines are equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission ensuring you that
silky smooth ride.

How Good is the Off-Roading?Â
Back this year is Jeeps' Selec-Terrain traction control
system with up to five specifically customized models that allow the Cherokee
to go through the snow, sand, and mud with ease. The Cherokee also provides an
impressive 51.2:1 crawl ratio as well as Jeeps' active drive system that comes
in two levels. The first level offers a next-generation rear-drive module that
helps reduce weight while enhancing fuel efficiency and performance. The second
level gives you the same features as the first while adding a two-speed Power
Transfer Unit (PTU) and low-range gear reduction. The Active Drive II also adds
a 4-Low mode that locks the front and the rear driveshafts for low-speed power
or towing. Want your Cherokee to climb a mountain? May we suggest the class-leading
Trailhawk which adds under-body skid plates and a more aggressive 4WD system to
go along with its upgraded suspension. The Cherokee Trailhawk also includes its
version of Active Drive with the Active Drive Lock all-wheel-drive system. This
feature adds a locking rear differential that gives you low-speed traction for
help with severe off-road conditions. The fun doesn't stop there; the Trailhawk
also adds 17-inch off-road tires with 4x4 capability and a rock-crawl mode
making it the most capable mid-size SUV on the market.
