Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe vs Wrangler 4xe

The Jeep 4xe powertrain was introduced in 2021 as the brand's first endeavor into the complex realm of electric vehicles. The Wrangler was the first Jeep to get the 4xe treatment, featuring two electric motors, a turbocharged engine, and a rechargeable battery pack. The following model year, the Grand Cherokee 4xe joined the lineup. Here at Reedman-Toll Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we have a huge selection of Jeep 4xe vehicles, and we're excited to share them with you! You may be wondering which Jeep 4xe model is right for you. That's why, on this page, you can take a look at both models side-by-side to compare and contrast so you can make the most educated decision!

How is the Grand Cherokee 4xe Powered?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, or PHEV for short. No matter the make or model, all PHEVs use some variation of the same setup: an internal combustion engine, at least one electric motor, and a rechargeable battery pack. For the 4xe system, Jeep uses a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine for gas power. Meanwhile, the electric power starts with an electric motor mounted to the front of the engine, where the traditional Wrangler's alternator would be found. This provides a seamless Engine Stop-Start (ESS) function and optimized regenerative braking. Jeep also placed a second electric motor inside the transmission, replacing the torque converter. This provides instant torque distribution for spectacular performance. Underneath the rear seat is where Jeep put the 400-volt, 17.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This setup delivers an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, the Grand Cherokee 4xe achieves a maximum of 56 MPGe, a total driving range of up to 470 miles, and 25 miles of all-electric driving. The Grand Cherokee 4xe comes standard with Quadra-Trac I 4x4 with a single-speed transfer case and is available with either Quadra-Trac II 4x4 with a two-speed transfer case or Quadra-Drive II with a two-speed transfer case and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.

Wrangler 4xe Powertrain

The Wrangler 4xe operates just the same as the Grand Cherokee 4xe, using a turbocharged engine, two electric motors, and a lithium-ion battery pack for 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. However, the efficiency numbers between the two vehicles vary slightly. This setup provides the Wrangler 4xe with 49 MPGe, up to a 370-mile total driving range, and an all-electric driving range of up to 21 miles. Another difference is in the lineup of 4x4 systems. Selec-Trac 4x4 is the Wrangler's full-time automatic 4x4 system, which constantly reads road conditions and automatically makes adjustments to the torque distribution on the fly. It also uses a two-speed transfer case, allowing the driver to choose 4-HI and 4-LO modes. The Rubicon and Rubicon X trim levels feature Rock-Trac 4x4, which offers a 4-LO gear ratio of 4:1, allowing for greater torque while crawling at low speeds.

What Trim Levels Does the Grand Cherokee 4xe Include?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee lineup includes five trim levels: Base, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve. The entry-level trim is based on the traditional Grand Cherokee's Limited trim, featuring LED lighting, power-remote trunk release, power-adjustable/heated side mirrors, leather-trimmed seating, heated front seats, a 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, a fully-digital 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The Trailhawk trim is the only Grand Cherokee 4xe trim with Jeep's Trail Rated badge, thanks to its all-terrain tires, electronic sway bar disconnect, Quadra-Drive II with an electronic limited-slip rear differential, Quadra-Lift air suspension, and Electric Blue tow hooks, among other off-roading features. The Overland trim levels up with 20-inch alloy wheels, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, Electric Blue tow hooks, a hands-free power liftgate, five-color ambient interior LED lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Alpine premium audio with 10 speakers, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, heated/cooled front seats, and more. The Summit trim takes luxury to new heights with Nappa leather upholstery, heated, cooled, and massaging front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels, genuine wood dash and steering wheel trim, and a head-up display. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the Summit Reserve comes along with a 10.25-inch front passenger co-piloting touchscreen, McIntosh Labs premium audio with 19 speakers, quilted Palermo leather upholstery, and exclusive 21-inch alloy wheels.
