The new crowning champion of horsepower and strength is the 2019 Challenger Hellcat Redeye, the most powerful production muscle car on the market. What are the powertrains of the 2019 Challenger?

A number of engines power the various trim selections of the Challenger, providing elevated performance model-by-model until the ludicrous Redeye's maximized horsepower and torque. But first, we start in more reasonable territory: the SXT and GT are both powered by the reliable 3.6L V6 Pentastar, providing 268 lb-ft torque and 305hp to its drivers. While previous years had the SXT rear-wheel-drive-exclusive and the GT all-wheel-drive-exclusive, 2019 provides both drivetrains to each of these trims! These two are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The R/T is the least expensive way to get your hands on a legendary V8, this one being a 5.7L HEMI paired to either a six-speed manual or the aforementioned eight-speed. The manual gives a pinch more performance, with three more horsepower for 375 total and ten more lb-ft for 410 in torque. If you're looking for performance specialization, the R/T 392 introduces Launch Control, Line Lock, Brembo performance brakes, sport-tuned suspension, and configurable drive modes to enhance its bigger 6.4L V8. This system generates 485hp and 475 lb-ft torque. Other packages are supplied to this model to further its performance specialization, such as the Plus, T/A, Scat Pack, Scat Pack Widebody, and Shaker variants. Bridging into the extreme, the SRT Hellcat was last year's fastest Challenger on the market and still supplies its great combination of systems. A dual-snorkel hood is specifically designed to cool down the supercharged 6.2L V8 HEMI, maximizing its performance to 650 lb-ft torque and 717hp! But the new jewel is the Redeye (complete with glimmering ruby gem in the Hellcat insignia)...

How does the all new Hellcat Redeye perform?

Borrowed from the Demon, the largest factory made supercharger and 25 major component upgrades are added to the Hellcat's supercharged HEMI to output 797hp and 707 lb-ft torque, really gluing you to your seat with throttles of zero-to-sixty in just 3.4 seconds, running a quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds. This system receives a TorqueFlite 8HP90 eight-speed automatic transmission upgraded with a torque converter, delivering 18 percent greater torque manipulation when compared with the Hellcat. Some of the added Demon features include Line Lock, Launch Assist, Torque Reserve, and Launch Control, all optimizing the drag potential of the Redeye. Line Lock engages the front brakes in order to provide a clean rear-tire burnout. Launch Assist was a factory-produced first within the Demon, and it aids in negating wheel hop slips to dedicate one-hundred percent of torque into forward momentum. Meanwhile, Torque Reserve and Launch Control manage torque numbers to maximize wheel acceleration throughout a drag, providing constant lb-ft for enhanced forward momentum. Other systems include Adaptive Damping Suspension and SRT Drive Modes, tailoring the ride experience by fine-tuning the Redeye powertrain, transmission, suspension, and drivetrain to best suit either an Auto Mode, Sport Mode, or Track Mode.

What's new in the Challenger's style and design?

The designs and palette colors of the Challenger allows for extreme personalization, including now fourteen exterior paint choices with added optional racing stripes to customize your muscle car to the fullest. All Challengers also feature standard cloth seats with various available high quality leather upholstery options. This year, a Houndstooth cloth and Nappa Caramel leather color are added into the existing options carried over from 2018. A further variety of style options and packages are available to really make your Challenger one of a kind. This includes the aforementioned Plus, T/A, Scat Pack, Scat Pack Widebody, and Shaker Packages, all equipped with unique interior and exterior style elements and detailing colors. For those that want a true racing look, Dodge offers a Rear Seat Delete Group to remove the second row and lighten your vehicle for better performance, replacing the additional seating with a rear cargo net. Each high performance Challenger also offers unique badging to advertise which trim you possess, such as the Angry Bee logo for all Scat Pack vehicles, the roaring cougar for the Hellcat, and the red jeweled cougar found on the new Redeye.
