2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vs Chevrolet Traverse

Picking out a new three-row SUV is tough, and if you've been searching for a new vehicle in or around Philadelphia, you may have already seen just how many options there are to choose from. However, rather than getting overwhelmed by your selection, we want to help you take a closer look at two strong contenders to help you determine which one is a better fit for your lifestyle. The first SUV we're considering is the new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L which is the first-ever version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee to feature three rows of seats. Our second option is the Chevrolet Traverse, which brings its own unique array of features to the table. To get a better idea of which one is right for you, continue reading below!

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Power & Handling

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L, like many other Jeep vehicles, provides drivers with the power and capability to navigate city streets with ease, and even transition to off-road trails. There are two engine options for the lineup, the first of which is a 3.6-liter V6, followed by a 5.7-liter V8. Both engines pack quite a punch, providing maximum towing capacities of 6,200 and 7,200 pounds, respectively. 4-wheel drive is also available to all trim levels, with the help of one of three possible transfer cases, the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. The Overland trim level is especially well-equipped for off-roading, thanks to its standard Quadra-Lift air suspension, front tow hooks, and hill-descent control.

2021 Chevrolet Traverse Power & Handling

The Chevy Traverse offers a whopping seven trim levels in its 2021 lineup, but despite this variety in models, there is only one powertrain option available. This powertrain consists of a 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, capable of producing 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The Traverse could definitely benefit from a V8 engine option, which may have given it the extra kick it needs to keep from feeling sluggish. Also, its towing capacity is 5,000 pounds, making it a bit less athletic than the Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Features & Design

The design of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L feels upscale and refined at each trim level. Starting at the Limited trim, the interior is upholstered in Capri leather, with quilted Nappa leather for upper trim levels. There's also real American walnut wood trim along the steering wheel, an a standard Uconnect 5 touchscreen, both of which make for an elegant and luxurious-looking dashboard. Other features include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ambient LED interior lighting, LED exterior lighting, and an extensive set of standard safety features like blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.

2021 Chevrolet Traverse Features & Design

The Chevy Traverse has a practical and somewhat utilitarian design that may feel like a smart choice for families on the go. Its first two trim levels unfortunately do not receive the same safety features as the rest of the lineup, such as rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring. When it comes to technology, the Traverse features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity from its infotainment touchscreen display, satellite radio, and a wireless smartphone charger. Other features include heated seats, heated side mirrors, and second-row captain's chairs.

Both the Jeep Grand Cherokee L and the Chevrolet Traverse provide a substantial set of exciting features that the whole family will enjoy. However, despite being new to the three-row SUV segment, we sincerely feel that the Grand Cherokee L has managed to outshine the Traverse due to its comprehensive safety package luxurious design, and off-road abilities.
