Under the Durango's Hood
There are two available engines for the 2017 Dodge Durango. The first is standard on all trims excluding the R/T and is a 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. On the Citadel or any trim equipped with the Blacktop package, the horsepower goes up slightly to 295. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available on this powertrain. Another standard item is an automatic stop-start system for optimal fuel economy. When equipped for towing, this powertrain can tow 6,200 pounds- a figure that is rarely met by competitors. The second engine belongs to the R/T trim and is available for the Citadel trim; it's a 5.7-liter V8 that can produce 390 pound-feet of torque and 360 horsepower. This is also coupled with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic, but if equipped with the optional all-wheel-drive system, it includes a low-range transfer case that makes real off-road adventures a possibility. The V8 powertrain can tow 7,400 pounds.
